Another case of invertebrate karoushi. The lower bee was just hanging on to the thistle, barely moving at all.

American bees are usually pretty small, at least, the ones found at average elevations (we have the larger, fuzzy ones in mountainous regions); they do tend to stay busy with whatever they're doing, but aren't nearly as photogenic and have a tendency to want to explore everything. It's not that they are angry or aggressive, just curious.

European bees generally seem rather well behaved and don't get mad until provoked. Out in the field they seem ways too busy to pay us humans much attention
